PE Curriculum Statement

INTENT

 At Glenmead  Primary School, we recognise the importance of PE and the role it has to play in promoting long term, healthy lifestyles. The intent of our PE curriculum is to provide all children with high quality PE and sport provision. It is our vision for every pupil to succeed and achieve their potential as well as to lead physically active lifestyles. We strive to inspire our pupils through fun and engaging PE lessons that are enjoyable, challenging and accessible to all. We want our pupils to appreciate the benefits of a healthy and physically active lifestyle. Through our teaching of PE, we will provide opportunities for pupils to develop values and transferable life skills such as fairness and respect as well as providing them with opportunities to take part in competitive sport. 

Through the delivery of the national curriculum for PE we aim to ensure that all pupils:

• develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
• are physically active for sustained periods of time
• engage in competitive sports and activities
• lead healthy, active lives

IMPLEMENTATION

At Glenmead we ensure that PE features regularly on the timetable. We work closely with the PE Hub to support teachers in delivering  good provision which enable all pupils to actively engage and enjoy lessons. By working with the  PE Hub and following their planning, we ensure clear continuity and progression in PE throughout the year and across the school. All teachers have access to good quality professional development provided by one of our close partner organisations, ASPIRE coaches.

During the school day there are also numerous opportunities for pupils to engage in physical activity including lunchtimes and playtimes. We have trained pupils as 'Play Leaders' who work in teams to deliver different physical activities during the lunchtimes alongside our team of lunchtime supervisors.
